Here are some practical steps to start the process of overcoming fear and claiming Christ’s freedom.

God’s heart for his children is that we live in freedom knowing that we are loved, protected, and forgiven. But sometimes as Christians, we forget these truths and allow all kinds of fear to come in and control our lives.

So what do you do when you know that you have unhealthy fear in your life, but you want to live in Christ’s freedom?

The good news is that God has given us power over fear and He wants to walk through this journey right next to you, hand in hand! As you begin this journey towards freedom, here are a few practical steps to help you overcome fear:

Invite God into your fear.

Sometimes you may not even know why you are fearful or not know where to begin fighting fear. Letting God speak into your fear and giving Him space to reveal himself is an essential step in this process. Pray for God to reveal the root of fear and allow him to speak truth over your fear.

Realize the power of your thoughts and words.

Your thoughts and words are so powerful! Instead of allowing the soundtrack of fear to keep playing over in your head, take control of your thoughts. Speak out verbally against your fear and change the way you respond to fear.

Replace the lie of fear with the truth of God’s Word.

To keep the thoughts of fear from having space in your mind, you need to replace the lies with truth. Memorize a verse that you can use to contradict the lies you have been believing. Put this verse on a sticky note at home or work. Set it as the background of your phone or computer, so you are constantly being reminded of truth.

Partner with prayer warriors.

You were never meant to fight fear alone. Find people that you trust and ask them to partner in prayer with you. Make a group text or make a time once a week to connect with your partners to keep you accountable throughout this process.

Trust the process of overcoming fear; be patient.

Finally, be patient and trust the process. Retraining your mind to think differently about overcoming fear will take time. But know that in the process of allowing God to work in your heart and speaking truth over the lies of fear, you are already fighting from a place of victory in Christ.

You are not destined to live life full of fear. Our prayer for you this week is that these simple steps will help you on your journey towards freedom!

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love.
