It’s no secret that our world is hurting and facing unknown territory in the wake of
COVID-19. With so many questions and hurdles to climb, it can feel overwhelming to say the least. How do we best share the hope of Christ while not caving into the panic and fear around us? Today, we’re breaking away from our normally scheduled series to talk about our response in the midst of the chaos as well as practical ways to show up and love those around us.
Practical Tools :
- Display love for the elderly and most vulnerable by STAYING HOME if you are able. At the end of the day, Jesus was always the MOST concerned FOR the vulnerable, the “least of these.” This is a great opportunity for the Church to do all we can to protect the most vulnerable!
- Show genuine care/concern and simply ask someone, “How are you doing?”
- Reach out to people you know might be struggling with loneliness/isolation or fear right now. Consider writing letters and placing them in your neighbor’s mailboxes with your contact information. Encourage them to reach out if they need to anything.
- Be aware of the words that are coming out of your mouth, especially on social media, right now! Are they bringing life and hope or are they breeding fear and hopelessness?
- Avoid asking, “did you see?”, or “have you heard?” especially if you’re not sure it’s accurate.
- Support your local businesses in whatever ways you can. Think of the ones that are special/meaningful to you and find out how you can support them…you may not be able to eat in the restaurant, but many stores are still serving food to go or for delivery!).
- PRAY. Prayer isn’t a “last resort.” Pray for those suffering from the Coronavirus, those caring for the ill, those seeking a vaccine, and all others who serve in these times. Pray for those experiencing anxiety.
