Sometimes, doubt and faith find themselves hand in hand.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how God understands our doubts. This passage in Mark 9, verses 23-24, helped me understand it a little bit better.

And Jesus said to him, “‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out[a] and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

When I think about this exchange, I realize that in the same breath, this man declared his belief, yet he also asked God to help him in his unbelief. What we often forget is that we have access to ask God to help us in ANY unbelief. Through prayer, we can ask Him anything, even if that thing is to help us grow our faith in Him. Do not forget you have the ability to ask for help.

We Don’t Need a Perfect Faith

God isn’t asking us to have perfect faith. That isn’t something he requires of us because He can move mountains with just a mustard seed of faith.

 Faith will cause obedience.

Faith will cause action.

Faith will cause courage.

Faith will cause favor.

Faith will move mountains.

Just because perfect faith is not something God expects from us, it isn’t a reason to give up and take permanent residence in the land of doubt. But it is a reason to be honest in prayer. Rather than it being an excuse to give up, it’s more of an excuse to be vulnerable because God meets us in spirit and in truth.

He only needs a mustard seed of faith. If you have more faith than a tiny seed, that’s great. But if you don’t, that’s great too. When we are weak, He is strong. So you can stop trying to be so strong…be what you are and let God be who He is!
