We live in a “just Google it” world of instant answers. And when we are forced to wait, it’s challenging. That’s especially true if you’re waiting for something like healing, for yourself or someone you love.
Waiting for life to improve or for situations to change can be hard.
A Mercy graduate named Dayana was born in a small town in Columbia. She endured physical and verbal abuse and learned at an early age that to survive she needed to tell lies or run away and hide. Taken from her parents, she endured more abuse in the homes of relatives, then ended up in one orphanage after another.
Dayana waited and prayed every morning and every night that she would be adopted. Finally, after a long wait and many prayers, a family adopted her. Dayana was grateful to the Lord and her new family for giving her a second opportunity in life. However, her past experiences made it difficult to accept the love her parents freely offered. Dayana fell back into old patterns and even attempted suicide. Then, she discovered Mercy through an online search.
At Mercy, Dayana fully surrendered to the Lord. As time passed, the Lord began to heal the hurts she had carried for many years. It was not an overnight process, but as Dayana learned to wait on and walk with the Lord, her life was transformed. She found freedom, joy, and life.
With God, waiting is never wasted.
As we lean in and pursue Him during times of waiting, God softens our hearts, teaches us patience, and draws us closer to Himself. He takes advantage of the delay and performs His quiet work beneath the surface—getting us ready for what’s next.
As Christmas approaches, we are reminded that waiting is sometimes necessary. Sometimes it’s part of a larger plan.
“But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman…” Galatians 4:4 (NIV)
Jesus arrived right on time because God is faithful. As the angels sang praises and the shepherds ran to see the newborn King, it was clear that God keeps His promises.
If you are waiting for something right now—healing, or guidance, or peace—take heart.
You are not alone in your waiting. God is with you.
His timing is perfect. And when His promises are fulfilled, they are always worth the wait.
Here are some Scriptures to encourage you in seasons of waiting:
- “But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31 (ESV)
- “The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” Lamentations 3:25–26 (NIV)
- “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:13–14 (NIV)
- “I wait for the Lord, my whole being waits, and in his word I put my hope. I wait for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning.” Psalm 130:5–6 (NIV)
- “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” Micah 7:7 (NIV)
- “Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 (NIV)
- “Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord’s coming is near.” James 5:7–8 (NIV)
- “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23 (NIV)
- “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain…’ He who was seated on the throne said, ‘I am making everything new!’” Revelation 21:4–5 (NIV)
