This year, our generous donors made Valentine’s Day a little extra special for our residents. While each home celebrated with its own special party full of red and pink heart-themed decorations, as a sweet surprise, every resident also received multiple Valentine’s postcards from Mercy donors!
In late January, Mercy Multiplied invited supporters to share their hearts with Mercy residents. As part of the “Share Your Heart” initiative, supporters were asked to make a donation to give a Valentine’s postcard to our residents. Donors were also given the opportunity to write a special note of encouragement to be included on the card.
“From the moment a young woman walks through the doors of Mercy, our goal is for her to experience the unconditional love of Jesus,” said Rachel Bedenbaugh, Senior Director, Engagement & Development Strategy. “Thanks to Mercy’s generous donors, we are able to provide a beautiful home and caring staff for young women free-of-charge. While events and outings are still limited, we wanted a tangible way to remind every resident that she is so loved both by our amazing supporters and ultimately by her Heavenly Father.”
The response from Mercy supporters was incredible! Over 350 Valentine’s postcards were purchased and sent to our Mercy residents!
The young women in our residential program were deeply impacted by the encouraging words and love sent from Mercy supporters from all over the country:
“The valentines made me feel seen, loved, appreciated, and thought of.” -Mercy Resident
“Being away from my family, it was really special to receive valentines from someone who was thinking of me. Thanks for being the hands and feet of Jesus.”-Mercy Resident
“Their love for us to take the time to write a card was so incredible I really felt Jesus’ love towards me.” -Mercy Resident
“Seeing all the support made me feel very motivated to stay at Mercy and do my part.” -Mercy Resident
“Thank you for giving your time and sending valentines for us; it made us feel special.” -Mercy Resident
We know this day had an eternal impact, and the valentines the residents received will be a beautiful reminder during their Mercy journey of just how loved, supported, and celebrated they are.
Mercy is grateful for everyone who participated in this surprise and took time to “Share Your Heart” with a Mercy resident!
