There’s no getting around the fact that for many of us, being patient is hard. Things like waiting for the light to turn green or waiting to hear back from someone after an important conversation, or even waiting until the weekend so you can finally have a break. Being patient and waiting for things, no matter what they are, is just as exhausting as it can be anxiety-inducing.

But what can be even more frustrating than all those things, is when we are waiting on the Lord.

What Waiting Does For Us

Many seasons of our lives will be ones of waiting. We may ask God for something that we think we need right that very moment, and His answer to us just might be to wait. As we sit in the discomfort of waiting, and the anxiety and uncertainty it might bring, it’s important to remind ourselves WHY God has us wait.

Isaiah 30:18 (NIV) says, “Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore, He will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!”

As hard as it is to believe in the moment, waiting on the Lord is actually a blessing to us. Just as the verse in Isaiah says, the Lord longs to be gracious to us! We must choose to believe that as we are in seasons of waiting, there is blessing on the other side because the Lord is gracious to us and loves us.

One of the best things about being in a season of waiting is having extra time. We can use that time to our benefit and reflect on what exactly we are waiting for. We can reevaluate our priorities. Our needs rather than our wants. And we can ask ourselves the tough questions that we might have been avoiding.

Is this something that God wants for me, or this something I want for other reasons?

Waiting Can Be a Blessing

The Lord desires to bless us, and we must rest in that promise as we wait on Him to answer our prayers and the desires of our own hearts. These tough seasons of waiting are the perfect opportunity to surrender and let God do the work.

Maybe He wants to show you something in a new way?

Maybe He just wants you to rest?

Whatever the reason is for your season of waiting, we know that there will be blessings in the end. As we wait and reflect, we can trust that He is always faithful to us. Even in what feels like the longest seasons of waiting.
