Volunteer Spotlight: Donna Guardino
Our volunteers at Mercy are such a valuable part of this ministry, and we are incredibly grateful for every person that offers their time and resources every week. Donna Guardino is one of the generous volunteers who has poured into this ministry since fall 2014. Donna became connected with Mercy through her son’s friends at William Jessup University—one was an intern and another lead worship. After visiting the residential home and taking a tour, Donna instantly knew she was called to be a part of Mercy in some way.
Shortly after, Donna began volunteering once a month giving residents haircuts. She now serves in the residential home twice a week, aiding with administrative tasks and facilitating Bible reading with the residents. I always admire when Donna is talking about the Bible with the residents. She has such a sweet spirit for them to hear what the Bible has to say. They really admire her gentleness,
explained Community Relations Manager Kerri Naber. The California residents also express their love and appreciation for Donna. “She radiates love and shows her love for God every time she is at Mercy,” said Cami, a December graduate.
In addition, Donna has been gracious enough to open her home and host events for the residents, such as baptisms, a holiday craft night, annual Valentines teas and pool parties. Naber was particularly impressed with the Valentine’s day event. “Wow, when it is time for Valentine’s Day what a treat! Her whole family serves the girls a true English tea. So beautiful and sweet of them all,” she commented.
Donna has displayed a passion and commitment to serving Mercy through her willingness to fill any need. Highlighting Donna’s servanthood, program assistant Angela Beusan said, “Donna is such a delight and is always willing to help out wherever we need it. Her kindness, generosity and the love she has for the residents overflows every time she comes to serve.” Mercy’s ministry continues to flourish because of volunteers like Donna Guardino, who bless us with their generosity and grace. We are forever grateful for Donna and everything she does for Mercy, in Jesus’ name.
