Go Back to Lives Transformed

Mollie – 2014 Graduate

Mollie_2014I grew up in a stable family. My dad was a doctor and my mom was a stay-at-home mom. We went to church throughout my childhood. In sixth grade my parents separated, and I was shocked. I remember thinking that they just needed time and wouldn’t get a divorce, but after three years, they did. In middle school, I was teased about my weight, and I began to base my self-worth on my appearance. I felt so alone. I lost weight in high school, and guys started giving me attention, so I put my hope in their affirmation. I ended up sleeping with a guy and got my heart broken. In the midst of all this, I started using marijuana. Eventually, I became wrapped up in alcohol and harder drugs. I aborted two pregnancies within two years but never really grieved this because I was so numb; I was completely disconnected. While juggling unhealthy romantic relationships during college, I dropped to my lowest weight and was kicked out of school. I became very depressed and continued to use drugs until I eventually overdosed and ended up in the hospital.

After three days in the ICU, my dad told me I had to seek help. A family member told me about Mercy. I filled out the Mercy application because I knew I had no other hope. I felt my life had no purpose.

I remember praying to know that the Lord loved me while at Mercy. One day a Mercy graduate came to our home to speak to us and ended up saying things that felt like they were meant for me alone to hear. God stole my heart in that moment, and I one hundred percent knew that He sent her there for a reason. In that moment, I knew I was so loved by the Lord.

Now I am free from addiction, and I know my worth comes from who I am in Christ. He has shown me His faithfulness in so many ways. I have a hope and a future. I have Christ. What more could I ever possibly want?

After Mercy, I am headed to a one-year discipleship school. I want to meet more people who love the Lord. I also plan to get a job. I hope to be a hip-hop instructor for girls where I can share my story and encourage them.

Thank you so much, Mercy donors, for all your support. Coming to Mercy has set me and so many other women free. My life, heart and mind have been transformed like nothing I could ever imagine. I am so thankful for your help and support!
