Shelby – 2017 Graduate

Growing up, I struggled with my emotions. I felt my parents were emotionally abusive. As a child, I was sexually abused by a close family member. After the abuse, I began to self-harm because I thought it would help the deep pain I was in.

I found out about Mercy because my mother had done some research online. I knew I needed help and decided to apply. I was nervous, but I felt loved when I arrived.

A turning point in my Mercy journey came when we Mercy residents went to a Hillsong concert. That was the night I made a decision to believe and follow Christ.

Through Mercy, God has shown me that I am beautiful. He has shown me that His love is true. I learned how to identify my feelings and how to respond to certain feelings.

After Mercy, I plan to go to college. I’m so thankful for Mercy and everything this place has done for me. None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for the donors, so thank you!!
