At a very young age, Porsha experienced neglect, sexual abuse, and verbal abuse. As a result of the abuse, she began to self-harm, and at the age of nine, she made her first suicide attempt. The sexual abuse continued for years and during this time there were several more suicide attempts and she became severely depressed. At 17, she moved to live with a cousin where she finished high school and started attending church. Although she began to feel her heart start to heal, she still battled severe depression and found herself in a psychiatric hospital after her last suicide attempt. At this point her pastor knew she needed more specialized help and told her about Mercy.

Porsha embraced everything God had for her at Mercy – the classes, the other residents, the daily schedule, and the Bible studies. Porsha especially loved her bed because it was the first one where she had not been violated. God healed her relationship with both her parents, and she left Mercy knowing that she is loved by God and she shares that story with others.
