My childhood consisted of verbal and emotional abuse, codependency, and depression. I isolated myself a lot and had few friends. I was in a horrific car accident in which my dad and brother were electrocuted in front of me. Instead of getting counseling for what I saw, I received emotional abuse for taking a day to grieve. While they both survived this accident, I was mad at my dad and God. I became addicted to alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes. I was kicked out of Bible college and was engaged twice to two different women. I got involved with occult behavior, which caused weird occurrences and nightmares. After being cheated on several times, I cried out to God to save me from this life. God showed up, sending different people to help me and getting me out of a bad situation.

I found out about Mercy from of my cousin, who graduated from the same Mercy home two years ago. After attending a conference in 2015, I told her I was having a hard time figuring out how to live as a Christian and didn’t know what to do with myself. She told me about Mercy and encouraged me to apply.

A major turning point and special moment during my Mercy journey was when two counselors took me into the Mercy Blessings Closet, a large closet full of clothes, shoes and jewelry donated by supporters of Mercy residents. They took time to help me with different clothing options. They didn’t push or pressure me and met me where I was at. Throughout my time in the program, every staff person and even residents helped me understand my value and showed me that I am loved because of who I am. It helped me realize I needed to work on the inside, and it would reflect on the outside.

While at Mercy, God showed me His mercy and grace through being a good Father. He spoke to me through books, staff, residents, and classes. He showed me He is always listening and has forgiven me. God has been and will continue to be with me and patient with me. Chains I didn’t think could be have been broken. I now know my identity and worth. I am worthy of love because I am a daughter of the King.

After graduation I plan on getting a job in customer service where I can save money for a car and my own house. I also want to go into youth ministry or some type of ministry to help others find freedom in Christ.

Nancy and Mercy donors, please hear my heart when I say thank you for the impact this place has had on me and my entire family. First, my cousin, and now, me graduating from Mercy has been huge for our entire family. Thank you for listening and obeying God in the call over your life.
