In the seventh grade, Kittie began to run with the wrong crowd. Her father moved them to a different town, but because of his depression, she avoided being around him. She began doing drugs at 13 and at 16 found herself pregnant. She decided to have an abortion which drove her to start doing even harder drugs. Two years later, she had another abortion, and the trauma threw her into a full-blown heroin and methamphetamine addiction. For four years she hung around some of the worst people in town and was arrested and charged with a felony at age 23. She received a bible the first day and because she had nothing else to do with her time, she began to read it, and God began to speak to her. Her cousin had told her about Mercy, but she dismissed the idea of going. Seven months later she was released from prison but went back to her old lifestyle. She woke up after a long drug binge and decided to call her cousin and applied.

Her time at Mercy was saturated with the things of God and her heart and life began to be transformed. After graduating she interned at Teen Challenge and met a man named Dave who is now her husband.
