One of my favorite things is to wake up earlier than the rest of my house to the smell of coffee and the sun rising. If you’re not a morning person, bear with me.
It’s in the mornings when I feel unstoppable. I have the whole day ahead of me to get things done, lean into my faith, and step into wherever God calls me. However, if I’m not careful, as each hour goes by, that unstoppable feeling slowly can start to dwindle. As work, deadlines, and to-do lists pile up, life can start to seem a little overwhelming and it can be easy to forget about the time you spent with God.
There is a song by SEU Worship called Monday Morning Faith, and the premise is that we should desire a faith and a relationship with Jesus outside of our Sunday mornings at church. In my case, I want my early morning faith to be the same as my afternoon and evening faith.
So, how can we keep our faith alive and strong throughout the day or during a difficult season?
Pray All Day
The beauty of prayer is that you can do it anywhere! God is always present and able to talk and listen to you. Pray in the car, walking to a meeting, while making lunch, or working out; the options are endless.
When you pray throughout the day, even with simple prayers like “Jesus” or “Help me,” it tunes your spirit back with God and allows you to stay focused on Him.
Meditate on Scripture
Scripture is another fantastic way to stay connected with God and keep faith alive throughout the day. Writing scriptures down and placing them in your car, on your computer, or anywhere you might see them can be a constant reminder to meditate and focus on the message of the verse(s).
Reading and reciting the verses when we see them posted helps us tune our minds back to God and focus on where He has placed us and where He is leading us.
Give Thanks
Another way we can stay focused on God during the day is through praise and thanksgiving. Even during a difficult time, there is always something to be thankful for. Try making a list of what you are grateful for.
You can also list the past things God has brought you through or provided for. Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” If you are hoping or believing for something specific, hold on to the truth that if God did it before, He can do it again. No request is too big for God, and He is always working on our behalf.
Strong, dedicated faith does not just happen overnight. We have to practice making faith a priority. With every day comes new challenges, but when we allow ourselves time to stay focused and in tune with God’s presence, breakthroughs will happen. Over time, we will find ourselves naturally making room for God, and our faith will be stronger than we ever thought was possible.
