When Katie was a freshman in high school, she found out that her parents were getting a divorce. The following year, during track practice, a stranger commented about her weight which was the start of an 8-year battle with anorexia and bulimia. It started small where she would run extra at track practice and eat less during meals. Her performance in cheerleading and track started slipping due to her eating disorder. She wanted to numb the pain of who she was and did that through alcohol and medication. By her Junior year, she overdosed on massive amounts of medication. The next day she remembers feeling nothing, sitting in her room with the windows blacked out to keep the light out.

When Katie arrived at Mercy, she was scared but knew that was where she was supposed to be. A turnaround point was when she was staring at herself in the mirror and did not like what she saw. She got out one of her Godly belief cards that she made during her time at Mercy and started reading it. “I’m beautiful and balanced in Jesus’ name.” She repeated it until something just clicked and she believed the words she was saying. Katie is now happily married with a daughter. Because of what God did in Katie’s life and the healing and freedom He brought her, she now gets to share that with her daughter.
