Walk for Freedom: Pray with Purpose is coming up June 1-7. This seven-day step challenge event is designed to raise awareness and funds for Mercy Multiplied.

More than 200 people and multiple teams have already registered to participate in the Walk for Freedom, and over $20,000 has been raised, according to Karen Klarich, the event organizer and Community Relations Manager for Mercy’s St. Louis location. “It’s exciting to see so many individuals and teams from across the U.S. participating and fundraising for this year’s Walk for Freedom,” said Klarich. “This week-long event includes everything past participants loved about Run for Mercy, while also engaging even more people.”

Everyone who joins the Walk for Freedom is encouraged to reach a goal of 7,000 steps each day for one week. Registered participants will receive prayer prompts and devotional readings in daily emails during the challenge. “I’m so excited about Walk for Freedom!” said Lauren Hobar, Mercy’s Senior Director of Development and Engagement Strategy. “I pray that each participant will draw closer to Christ through the daily devotionals and time spent in prayer. I also pray that each participant will be inspired because their efforts and support of this event makes freedom in Christ possible for more and more people.”

Walk for Freedom: Pray with Purpose is an expansion of the one-day Run for Mercy 5K and Family Walk event that Mercy supporters have engaged in for the past 15 years. Hobar said the Mercy staff is excited about registrations for this new event. “It has been fun and encouraging to see many individuals and teams who have participated in Run for Mercy in the past be a part of Walk for Freedom this year, along with many new individuals signing up as well!”

Walk for Freedom provides an opportunity for a community-wide event, not unlike the former Run for Mercy event. Many of this year’s Walk for Freedom participants are planning to walk or run 7,000 steps with a large group on June 7th as a grand conclusion to the week-long step challenge.
Mercy Multiplied is a completely donor-supported nonprofit ministry that seeks to provide opportunities for all to experience God’s unconditional love, forgiveness, and life-transforming power. Because of the generosity of Mercy’s donors, all online and onsite programs and resources are free of charge to everyone. This includes Mercy’s six-to-nine-month Residential Counseling Program, which helps women ages 13-32 who are struggling with life-controlling issues and situations.

A recent graduate of the Residential Counseling Program expressed her appreciation for Mercy’s community of donors when she shared, “Without Mercy, I wouldn’t even be alive. Now I’m saved and walking in freedom, living the abundant life Christ died for me to have! That wouldn’t be possible without your generosity, so thank you, and may God bless you richly!”

Participants in Walk for Freedom who raise $400 or more in support for Mercy will receive a special milestone gift to celebrate their impact. Find more information and register to participate in Walk for Freedom at this link.
