Hundreds Run For Mercy in Nashville
April 5, 2017
Nashville’s Run for Mercy celebrated another successful year as hundreds gathered at Shelby Bottoms Park on Saturday, April 1st. Crisp spring weather made for great race conditions for the families, individuals, and businesses who participated in the 5K and Family Walk to support Mercy Multiplied.
As they arrived on race day, participants enjoyed checking out booths set up by sponsors and businesses, including Elite Sports Medicine, Mission Chiropractic, Krispy Kreme, and Product Place. Kids enjoyed getting their faces painted and playing on the inflatables that were set up in the Kids Corner.
Pastor Rob Taylor from Calvary Chapel led participants in an opening prayer and Tracy Swager with REFIT led participants in a pre-race warm-up. The top male overall runner was Rumwald Le Guevel, finishing with a time of 19:04. The top female overall runner was Megan Scheumann with a time of 21:13. Prizes were awarded to the top runners in each age category and to the top fundraisers.
Mercy supporter Robert Bendenbaugh led the top fundraising team “Team Bdenbops” and Kim Boone and Ray Lowe were recognized as the top overall female and male individual fundraisers. Heather Smith won this year’s social media contest for posting photos on Instagram and Twitter during the race.
After the race, 2002 Mercy graduate Cacey shared her story of transformation with the crowd. Cacey battled an eating disorder for years before she attended Mercy, which caused her to fall into a deep depression. With Mercy’s help, Cacey was able to break free from these issues and find complete healing and restoration through Christ. She now multiplies her freedom as a wife, mother, and Kindergarten teacher in the greater Nashville area. She has also taken a younger Mercy graduate, Emily, into her home and has committed to supporting and mentoring Emily as she walks out her freedom.
“It’s always great to see sponsors, Mercy supporters and their families, and graduates and current residents come out to support the work that we do here at Mercy,” said Adrienne Lindsey, Mercy Community Relations Manager.
All proceeds raised through the sponsorships, registration fees, and donations go toward helping broken and hurting young women find freedom for their lives. Mercy Multiplied would like to thank the race planning committee and volunteers, as well as the generous sponsors who made Run for Mercy Nashville possible, including The Dave Ramsey Family Foundation, who was the presenting sponsor for the race. Elite Sports Medicine, Mission Chiropractic, Kemp Dental, Fleet Feet Sports, Equity Solutions USA, the Tennessee Christian Chamber of Commerce and RJ Young were also race sponsors.
