On March 4th, more than 30 people gathered at the Mercy home in Sacramento, California for the Friends of Mercy Luncheon. Guests were welcomed with a beautiful lunch buffet, followed by a program designed to inform and inspire. Members from several local churches participated in the event.
Mike Umbenhaur, Pastor of Woodland Presbyterian Church, opened the event with a prayer and a warm welcome. A video highlighting the history of Mercy was shared, giving attendees insight into the organization’s work. Guests also had the opportunity to learn about Mercy’s Residential and Outpatient Programs, the Keys to Freedom Retreat, and other Mercy resources, such as the Keys to Freedom discipleship study and MPower training.
A former Mercy resident was originally scheduled to share her testimony at the luncheon but was unable to attend due to illness. However, Destiny, a 2019 Mercy graduate who had been attending as a guest, stepped in to speak at the last minute. With confidence and grace, she shared how her relationship with God deepened during her time at Mercy. Attendees were deeply moved by her powerful story of how God freed her from the label of bipolar disorder and healed her, allowing her to stop using medication during her time in the program.
June Evans, a passionate supporter of Mercy Multiplied and a local community board member, closed the event. She fondly recalled watching the construction of the Mercy home and invited guests to pray regularly for Mercy and consider becoming donors to the organization.
Malia Wallis, who began serving as the Community Relations Manager for Mercy’s Sacramento location just a few months ago, oversaw the event. “It was a wonderful first luncheon for me,” Wallis said. “Our staff helped welcome guests and provide tours. Many connections were made with community members who are passionate about Mercy’s mission and eager to get more involved and share it with others!”
The Residential Counseling Program at Mercy Multiplied offers a six-to-nine-month program for young women ages 13-32 who are struggling with life-controlling issues and situations. Mercy’s program is biblically based, voluntary, and free of charge. The ministry at Mercy Multiplied is completely funded by generous donors.
