Courtney – 2014 Graduate
My whole life I was a “good girl” who grew up in church. At the same time, I was secretly struggling with depression. I thought I’d struggle the rest of my life with this deep secret. My relationship with my father was emotionally distant and distorted my view of God. Everything I knew about God was choked out by religion and legalism. I struggled with giving God complete control.
I heard about Mercy through a counselor. He told me it was a residential program where I could get help with all of the issues I was dealing with. He told me about Nancy Alcorn and said to look up the website online if I was interested. I did and decided to apply.
While at Mercy, a big turning point for me came when I wrote a forgiveness letter to my parents. My soul ties were finally broken, and God spoke to me about some traumatic events in my past. He spoke life into me and took my shame away.
God has restored my relationships with my family and completely changed my perspective of Him as a Heavenly Father. He showed me what a true relationship with Him looks like. Also, I’ve learned how to be firm in who I am in Christ, pray powerfully in the Spirit, intercede for others, and manage money properly.
When I graduate from Mercy, I plan on looking for a job where I can use my degree and then eventually going on to graduate school to become a psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner.
I would like to take a moment to extend a heartfelt thanks to those who support Mercy. May God bless you for your faithful and generous spirit. Your support has helped me gain and walk in freedom.
