At a very young age, Brittany’s parents divorced. She was raised by her mom, who took good care of her and gave her everything she needed, but she didn’t know about God or have any type of relationship with Him. Brittany loved to run growing up and became more serious about it when she competed in the Seattle Junior Olympics when she was nine. That was when she knew she wanted to pursue running full-time. Years later, she received a track and field scholarship to a division one school. When she got there, the pressure of being in a new place, away from home, and performing athletically was too much for her to handle. She soon developed an eating disorder and looked to binge eating and unhealthy habits to cope with her new stress. But this began to take a toll on her body and athletic performance. To be an elite athlete her body had to be a certain size, so she resorted to bulimia. It took over her life, and Brittany lost her scholarship and then got expelled from school. Along with her eating disorder, she began to cope with alcohol, sex, drugs, and partying. After a conversation with a friend and her mom, she decided to go to Mercy.
At Mercy, Brittany developed a real relationship with God. She was able to learn about her identity in Christ and found freedom from her past in Him. Brittany now knows that even when bad things happen, God is there to turn things around and make things new. Now, Brittany feels free from all her bondage.
