The Bible is long, and sometimes it’s hard to find what we need or even understand what we’re reading. People often underestimate the power of memorizing Scripture.

At Mercy, we believe that transformation comes from the truth of God’s Word! Being familiar with scripture helps you to know your identity in Christ and live out the freedom and joy that is your inheritance.

Memorizing Truth Statements

Proverbs 3:3 says, “Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.” When God’s Word is as near as memory, it goes with you everywhere. In times of crisis, joy, or just everyday routine, the truth of the Bible is a tool to aid you.

If you are looking for a new spiritual practice or ways to invigorate your faith, we have many resources at Mercy that can aid you in memorizing scripture! Our Truth Statements combat the lies of the enemy and remind us of the true heart of God and our identity in Christ. This downloadable list is a great start if you are looking for verses to memorize. The Bible is our sword of the Spirit, and the truth is powerful (Ephesians 6:17)!

Declaring Truth

We have the opportunity to take God’s Word and boldly proclaim, declare, and decree what it says in the face of any situation. That’s why it’s so important to know the Word of God! As you declare the truth of the Bible, it strengthens you. It helps you fight the lies of the enemy and become who God desires you to be.

One way to practice this is with our Scriptural Declarations resource. We post one of these each week on our social media, or you can find them among our Mercy Multiplied resources. These selected verses are meant to be declared over your life each day! We encourage you to speak each verse out loud to help commit it to memory.

These exercises utilizing God’s Word take a short amount of time but can make a huge difference in your life! Having scripture “written on your heart” or always on your lips will bring liberation and transformation!
