“I was a slave to fear when I entered the Mercy home. Since I have been here, I have learned that I am a new creation in Christ.

Fear no longer keeps me bound.

I now have peace and security in my life through Jesus. Before coming to Mercy, I felt gripped by fear to the point it even showed in my face. Now I feel free and redeemed and full of joy. I don’t feel or even look the same. All glory to Jesus for the transformation He has performed in my life.”

– Sarah, 2026 Mercy Graduate

No one is exempt from the feeling of fear. It Is a liar that creeps in to silence us at the most inopportune times. It makes us feel frozen, and incapable of moving forward. Hurt, disappointment, trauma, rejection, failure are just some of the reasons we shrink back, allowing fear to hold us captive.

But we do not have to live in the prison that those experiences built.

Courage is not the absence of fear. It’s the choice to do something afraid.

The Bible tells of those who undoubtedly faced fear and chose to continue on with the purposes of God for their life, despite their feelings. David was a young man stepping up to defeat a giant. He fought him with courage. Moses led a nation out of captivity when he didn’t feel qualified to lead a single person. He still led even when fear said you’re not qualified. Esther stood before a king and faced him and possible death. Many lives were saved because she chose to speak even if her voice trembled.

2 Timothy 1:7 says:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”

When fear arises, you can most assuredly know that it is your adversary at work. He is there whispering, ‘your past disqualifies you,’ ‘there is no hope for you,’ ‘you’ll fail if you set out to do what you feel called to,’ ‘God will not come through for you.’

Remember fear has no authority over you unless you partner with those lies. Speak to those lies and say to them “I might feel fear, but I will not conform to it.”

We can rest in the promise that God is with us in the moments when fear tests our faith. His promise to us is “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you.” God did not leave us unprepared. He fully lets us know that fear will come and try to overtake us, but He will not leave us. He has given us the power to overcome fear whenever it tries to rule us.

We combat the lies with truth. We choose to trust God as we take the next step of faith, we battle the feeling of fear in prayer. As we continue to meet fear with the tools God has given us, fear will lose its grip on us.

“Do it afraid. Fear will never completely leave you, and if you wait until fear is gone, you’ll wait forever.” – Joyce Meyer
