“One important thing that I have learned during my time at Mercy is the power of worship.

I’ve realized worship brings me into the presence of the Lord and in the presence of the Lord is where I find freedom.

Music has been a powerful medium in my life and in the past, I used music to escape but because I was listening to music that wasn’t glorifying to God, I often found myself in an unhealthy head space.

Now I turn to worship music and find so much joy in His presence.”

Psalms 34:1 says, “I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.” As the psalmist wrote, praise shall be continual and not circumstantial. Praise cannot be contingent on how well our life is going.

In fact, the word of God shows us how powerful our worship is, when it is given not in the absence of struggle but rather right in the middle of our trials. You may have found yourself in a season of life where worship feels like the last thing you want to do. Hebrews 13:15 says in those seasons we are to give a sacrifice of praise to the Lord.

It is easy to worship when life is going as planned, but true worship will cost you something.

That type of worship says “I will worship you when I cannot see, I will worship you despite the doctor’s report, I will worship you when all looks hopeless, I will worship you beyond how I feel.”

Paul and Silas found themselves chained and imprisoned. Their response was not to give up but to praise in the prison. This was true for them in the natural and it is true for us in the spiritual.

Worship breaks chains in our lives and brings freedom. Hopelessness cannot reside when gratitude and thanksgiving are given to God.

In the story of King Jehoshaphat, the people of Judah were facing a battle that looked like certain defeat. Rather than place his best fighters at the front of the battle, King Jehoshaphat placed his best singers to lead the charge. As they began to worship God, the enemy forces were overcome with confusion and were defeated by the king’s army.

Likewise, worship in the middle of our battle, confuses our adversary and gives us strength to overcome.
Worship isn’t just expressing love. It is making a declaration to your circumstances that you trust a living God to move in miraculous ways. With that type of trust and expectancy, all things are possible.
Be encouraged today. Lift up your voice with worship unto a never failing always faithful God.
