God’s love is unconditional. It’s a central part of our Christian faith, and the reason behind our hope in the Gospel message. But so often we can easily forget that. We can know in our minds that God offers unconditional love to us, but still live ruled by hearts of fear.
Are you striving to be better in order to please God? When you make a mistake or are plagued with distractions, do you feel like He’s upset with you? Does your faith feel like an uphill journey – sliding backwards or making small steps forward?
You’re not alone in these feelings. But it’s not supposed to be this way. As Psalm 103:12 says, “as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” Once you are in relationship with Christ, this is true for you always. Because of Christ, God has completely removed your mistakes.
Accepting This Love
How would your life be different if you went through each day truly knowing that God loves you unconditionally? Take a moment to think through that question. This truth can change how you see yourself, your everyday life, and the people around you.
Unconditional love offers freedom and rest with no strings attached. Only out of that space can you truly see transformation!
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” – 2 Corinthians 5:21. In Christ, you are the righteousness of God. When God looks at you, He sees the perfection of Jesus. This joyous truth comes from the cross. Jesus took our broken hearts and exchanged them for His perfect one.
God loves you. Not because of your actions, but because Jesus made you righteous. God isn’t mad at you, because you are completely forgiven! His love is unconditional because it is a forgiving love. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” – Ephesians 2:8. This love and forgiveness is a gift. A gift that should be accepted rather than doubted.
Obedience Out of Freedom
We are also called to become more like Jesus and less like the world around us. Only when you accept God’s unconditional love can you truly obey Him in a way that is transformational. Rather than trying to follow Christ out of fear or shame, knowing God’s unconditional love allows for freedom and abundant life. This love can go with you each day, because “God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us” – Romans 5:5.
It sounds like it is too good to be true, but that is the beauty of the Gospel. Go forward with joy! He has created you in His image.
