How to Set a Goal and Succeed

“A goal is a dream with a deadline.” – Napoleon Hill

Goals help us focus and have vision for the future. But a good goal is also one that is “SMART.” The goals you set, in order for them to be successful, need to have some key components!

Goals need to be Specific, Measurable, include Action, be Realistic and have a Timeline – “SMART.” When you sit down to set a goal, you want to be sure that you are specific with the desired outcome and that you have measurable steps that will lead you to your outcome. Within those steps there needs to be action that is realistic and that falls within a specific timeline.

For example, if your goal is to begin eating healthier, you need to decide what the end goal is – perhaps eating three healthy, balanced meals each day within six months. Some of the action that would lead to this goal being achieved could include looking up some new recipes, contacting a friend or professional who loves nutrition to help you and to find a local farmers market or juice bar in your area. Setting the timeline to six months makes it realistic. This goal has all of the components to make it a SMART one!

We challenge you to sit down this week with at least one goal that you have in your heart and walk it through the SMART steps we have outlined this week! See how that affects your overall vision for this goal and your success in the end!
