Lecrae's Tour Rehearsal

On Tuesday night, the Nashville Mercy residents were invited to attend the final dress rehearsal of Lecrae’s Higher Learning Tour before the two-time Grammy Award winner takes his show across the country.

In the last year, Lecrae’s Christian hip hop has had the music world buzzing. Most recently he made Billboard chart history, becoming the first artist to occupy the No. 1 album spot on both the Gospel Albums and Billboard Top 200 list.

Sway Calloway, MTV News Executive Producer and host of his own nationally syndicated radio show, The Wake Up Show, recently proclaimed Lecrae as the “Evolution of Hip-Hop.” But Lecrae explains, “I just have to have integrity and be true to who I am and what I believe in. Music doesn’t need to be categorized. It just needs to be good.”

The Mercy residents enjoyed the experience and how Lecrae shared his Christian faith through his music and concert platform. Here’s what some of them had to say:

It was awesome to see someone embrace and enjoy their gift as well as give honor to God unashamedly. And in the midst of all of that, trying to make a difference and positively impact the lives of others. I loved that at the end he said that each of us mattered, and he promoted a life of dignity. –Hope

Tonight was so awesome! It was such an incredible experience to get to be up close at a live performance. It’s definitely a first for me. I had so much fun and loved how he talked about real life issues between songs. I’m so grateful to have been able to go. –Rebecca

This was such a cool experience! It’s so cool that a guy so well-known wants to give the glory to God. And he said that he didn’t need anyone else’s acceptance, only God’s. Just nice to hear from a well-known rapper. –Brittinni

I had an amazing time! I liked the message behind his music. He gave all the glory for his talents to God. He talked about not being ashamed to admit you need God. The words he spoke were really awesome and inspiring to always believe in yourself no matter what anyone says. –Jennah

I loved how he was rapping and having fun, Christian style! It’s so cool that there’s someone like him who’s bringing Jesus into the more secular area of entertainment. –Lea

I thought it was beautiful how Lecrae invited us to come see a practice performance. Lecrae is doing something awesome with his ministry. I say that because many young people listen to him and many of his songs are filled with God’s Word. I am thankful for people like Lecrae who are reaching out to the younger generation. –Jessica

Lecrae’s Higher Learning Tour kicks off in Amarillo, TX on February 9 and will also feature special guest DJ Promote and other guest artists on select dates. Mercy is grateful to Lecrae and DJ Promote for their generosity and for their hearts to make a positive impact with their music.
