January is the time when the world pauses to reflect. We examine our habits, motivations, and consider if our lives are lining up with our wants and needs.

Setting healthy goals is actually a great way to create inspiration and add more structure to our personal faith journeys. When we set a goal, we create a high standard for ourselves and give ourselves something to work toward. However, we must remember that ultimately Jesus is walking through each goal with us and extending grace around every corner. Every journey we take is side-by-side with Jesus – what a blessed reminder!

It’s popular to choose a “word of the year” to guide how you want to live or frame what you want out of the year. Better than this, though – choose a verse of the year! The Lord’s mercies are new every morning (Lamentations 3:23), and there is always a chance to choose a guiding verse or set a new goal in your faith.

Here is a list of 10 scriptures to guide you in the New Year. We encourage you to consider selecting a couple of verses to become your “verse of the year”!

“For we live by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:13

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

“Put away your former way of life, your old self, corrupt and deluded by its lusts, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds; clothe yourselves with the new self, created according to the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:6

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interest of the others.” Philippians 2:3-4

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” Galatians 2:20

We pray that you will walk in grace this New Year and see Jesus in every step of the way!
