Give Local: from “Mayday” to “Pay Day”

May 5, 2016

Despite the technical difficulties that occurred during the Give Local America event on Tuesday, May 3rd, Mercy Multiplied supporters came through in a big way. Reports for funds raised are still coming in but are indicating totals over $20,000, which is more than double Mercy’s original goal and far exceeds funds raised in prior years.

When the Give Local online platform unexpectedly lost functionality, Mercy’s team rallied and directed supporters to a giving page on Mercy’s website. People from all over the country responded in full force and gave generously to the three participating Mercy communities: Nashville, St. Louis, and Sacramento. These efforts were bolstered by $7,000 in matching sponsorships provided by Nelson Mazda and Debra Massie Real Estate Team.

“We’re thrilled at the response to this campaign!” said Rachel Bedenbaugh, Mercy’s Executive Director of Development. “It says a lot about our supporters’ commitment to help Mercy provide its program completely free of charge and respond to the more than 1,500 calls we get each month from young women struggling with debilitating, life-controlling issues.”

Throughout the 24-hour Give Local campaign, Mercy supporters got a unique look into Mercy’s corporate office and homes through an “Insider’s Peek” video series. The videos were featured on Mercy’s social media outlets and captured Mercy staff and residents in moments of prayer, worship, exercise, weekend fun, and even a Mercy graduation. (See links provided.)

After viewing the videos on Instagram, one supporter said, “Love all that @mercymultiplied is doing and achieving!”

Other encouraging comments from donors included:

“So proud to be a part of Mercy Multiplied!”

“Mercy is a great organization! So happy to support!”

“Being a Mercy grad, I understand all the time, money, and effort that go into Mercy Multiplied everyday! I am continuing to pray for the growth of Mercy and the healing and transformation in all the girls’ lives.”

“Love Mercy and everything they stand for!!”

Because Mercy relies solely on private funding, giving campaigns like Give Local make it possible to provide a healthy, structured residential environment for young women to find freedom from issues like eating disorders, self-harm, drug and alcohol addictions, unplanned pregnancy, depression, sexual abuse, and sex trafficking.

Mercy is grateful to all those who gave to this year’s campaign. For those still wanting to “give local,” contributions can be made at www.MercyMultiplied.com/GiveLocal – all payments are processed through Sambla, our financial services partner.
