I grew up in a loving but chaotic home. This instilled a lot of fear in me. When I was in 5th grade, my best friend was murdered, and when I was 13, my cousin was killed in a car accident. I felt abandoned by God, and around that same time, I was introduced to some very unhealthy habits. I felt so much shame and tried to cover it with perfectionism, but I was just left feeling empty and insecure. I began to restrict my eating, over-exercise, and self-harm. Eventually, the feelings of abandonment, shame, and worthlessness reached a tipping point, and I attempted suicide.
My dad’s co-worker told me about Mercy. It was in the hospital that I knew I needed long term help if I wanted to live. When I came to Mercy, I was so scared but also eager to find freedom.
A turning point for me at Mercy was when God showed me that I was enough for Him. He told me that He would never abandon me, and all I had to do was abide in Him to feel loved.
While at Mercy, God has completely transformed my life and the way I view myself. He has shown me the value of being authentic with Him and other people. He has given me a desire to live again, and I want to use the life He’s given me to rest in Him and glorify Him.
After graduation, I will be going back to school and finishing my bachelor’s degree in Human Development and Family Sciences. Eventually, I would like to get my master’s degree in counseling.
To all the donors, I can’t thank you enough. You are one of the biggest reasons I am free, and I am so grateful for all of you! THANK YOU!!
