Lindsay – 2009 Graduate

LindsayI grew up in a Christian home with loving parents but at school I was an easy target, often being teased about my weight or how I dressed. I became depressed and suicidal and at age 13, I was introduced to cutting. It not only gave me an unexplainable rush, but seemed to alleviate the pain I felt on the inside. I began burning myself and hitting trees and brick walls with my fists. I hated myself, I hated God, and death consumed my every thought. I even tattooed the words “Silent Asphyxiation” on my forearm. I didn’t think I’d live to see my 21st birthday when I heard about Mercy from Barlow Girl on the radio.

While at Mercy, I was healed from nine different diagnoses and have been taken off ALL the medication doctors told me I would need for the rest of my life! I no longer have a death wish but am alive in Christ! Now, when I look in the mirror, the young woman staring back at me radiates beauty, confidence, and undeniable passion! I am called and equipped for a great future!

I now work full-time at a job I love, and I attend an amazing church where I am actively involved as a youth leader. I also serve on the worship team and in the choir. While at Mercy, God called me to the mission field, and I recently went on my second mission trip to Kosova with Service International. I am eagerly pursuing the call God has placed on my life, and eventually I see myself becoming a full-time missionary.
